Getting started is always the hardest part. This week I've been making excuses saying that I'll start running tomorrow and then when tomorrow rolls around, the next day seems more appealing than the now. But last night, I finally made up my mind to run before I had any chance to think or feel otherwise.
My goal was to stay on the treadmill longer than my first half mile. I ran 1.5 miles in 20 minutes. Its still pretty bad and far far from where I need to be, but I'll get there. Slowly but surely.
I still want new shoes and I'm leaning towards getting a pair of asics. I was told that the GEL Cumulus was a good one, anyone have thoughts on that? I'm also thinking of investing in a pedometer. Is it worthwhile to get the high end brands for $100 or is it just as good to get a basic $20 one? Any input would be helpful!
Logistical things aside, my hope is that my physical training will help me grow more disciplined to make up my mind more often and have the resolve and courage to follow through!
go to Fleet Feet in north berkeley on Solano. They can set you up with a pair of shoes that works for your feet.
ReplyDeletejust bc shoes are expensive doesn't mean it's good for your feet specifically. but generally, you get what you pay for. i say get a good pair! it's worth it. i got my brooks for about 90 on sale and i love it. esp. since you will running more frequently, it's more beneficial to wear good shoes that will protect your feet and prevent possible injury. and since you have a high arch, it might be good to get shoes fitted for you.
ReplyDeletemaybe you can go to a running store, write the brand down, and look for it online for cheaper. hehe :P like a true asian.
i think running shoes are a good investment. i tend to lean towards cheap shoes in general but with running shoes, i think it's worth the investment. =] i'm running in the marathon for the same reason as you. woo hoo! :D
